John 6:38-40 (NIV) "For I have come
down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent
me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the
last day. 40For my Father’s will is
that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life,
and I will raise him up at the last day.”
"What is God's will?" We ask that question; we hear about others asking
that question. And, we'd like to know the answer to it!
The reality is, there are lots of things in life concerning which we DON'T
know God's will. For example, is it God's will that I eat fruit for breakfast
tomorrow or bacon and eggs? We
don't know. Why don't we know? Because God hasn't told us!
One of my professors used to say, "You can't say it loudly enough or often
enough: you can't determine the will
of God apart from the Word of
God." In other words, if we really want to know what God's will is, we
have to look to the Word. If the Word doesn't address the issue, then God's
will has to remain unknown to us.
And while that can feel frustrating at first, it finds its resolution in
knowing what God HAS told us about His will. The passage above is an example -
God's will is that He takes people to heaven! God's will is to save people!
God's will is to bring people out of this world and take us to heaven!
"But how can I KNOW that's God's will?" we protest. Well, simply look at
what God has DONE. Jesus really came, really died, really rose. Why so?
Because He really wants you to join Him in heaven! He wanted that sooooo badly
that He saved you by living, dying, and rising!
And so as I live my life, I do so with confidence. After all, while I may
not know what God's will is for my breakfast table, I absolutely know what God's
ultimate will for my life is: He wants to take me to heaven! And that truth
brings you and me confidence and joy!
Thankful to know God's will, just like you,
