(Romans
6:6,7 NIV) For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the
body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin
because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
Have you thought
about your "death" this week? I am not talking about the death that you
experience when your time on this earth is done but I am talking about the
"death" you experienced when you were baptized.
When you were baptized
your sinful nature was crucified, abolished, put to death, and you were set
free! Set free from the bondage of your sins. At your baptism Jesus' perfect
life and His death on the cross were given personally to you. Because of Jesus'
death on the cross you can be assured that when God looks at you He now sees you
as His perfect child because at your baptism you were clothed with Jesus'
perfect life! And as a child of God you can be assured that Jesus' death on the
cross paid for all of your sins! You are free!
Freed from my bondage of
sin, just like you! Vicar

(John
19:10-11 NIV)
"Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power
either to free you or to crucify you?" {11} Jesus answered, "You would have no
power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who
handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
Jesus was standing on
trial, before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor.
Let's put it a bit
differently, GOD was standing trial before a man.
Clearly, who should
be submitting to whom? Obviously, man should be submitting to God.
In
remarkable grace, God submitted to man. Jesus bowed His head to Pontius Pilate,
allowed Pilate to take Him off to His death, on the cross. GOD ... submitted to
MAN!
Why did Jesus do so? Because that's the only way that you could
be set free! That was the only way that you could be set free from sin's guilt,
from sin's domination, from sin's horror. Only if Jesus submitted could you be
set free.
He submitted; you're FREE!
Thankful to be free, just
like you, pastor |
